Course Description
Is
it your style or are you writing the same song over and over? There
are a million ways into and out of the pitfalls of singer/songwriting.
You've worked on lyrics, melody, accompaniment, editing, presentation,
and vocals but--- are you happy with the way it is all fitting together?
Are you in a rut? In this workshop Crow Johnson guides you through
a series of tools and exercises to: turn things upside, find new
approaches to matching words, music, and emotion, getting un-stuck,
and giving yourself permission to playfully do things differently.
We will be working on new material. 5-minute exercises will be folded
on themselves, revealing the next 5-minute exercise. Youll
learn to collaborate. Youll be given starter phrases and song
seeds. You will pull a melody from a chord series; take on song
idea in three totally different directions. Youll explore
internal rhyme. You will map a song before writing it, then write
a song by following bread crumbs. Youll leave
with tools you can carry home and use.
What
you bring to this class is where we begin. If you have written one
song or one hundred, plan to experiment in a non-critical environment.
You will identify where you are and where you'd like to be, make
plans and gear up for the journey. You will need an instrument and
a sense of adventure. Crow will be a guide, co-conspirator and facilitator.
Send an e-mail to
Crow if you have any questions
